Max Morse: the Vocabulary Champ

Six agents. Six skills. One squad - and every question in the app belongs to one of them.

Deep beneath the Champ Academy, six agents run the most unusual division in the service. They don't chase villains across rooftops. They don't escape through air vents with three seconds to spare. They do something far more difficult. They read.

Incoming transmission // Champ Academy HQ

Every mission begins the same way - with a message, a letter, a diary, a story. Someone has to work out what it actually means. Who's telling the truth. What's coming next. What the strange word in the third paragraph is hiding.

That's what the CHAMPS do. And it's what your child is training to do, too.

The CHAMPS framework

Six agents. Six skills. One word.

Most reading schemes teach skills children can't name. AgentChamp gives every skill a face, a voice and a catchphrase - so when a child says “that's a Hunter question,” they're telling you they can identify retrieval.

These aren't six characters we invented and then attached to a curriculum. They are the curriculum.

Together they cover every KS2 reading content domain, 2a-2h - nothing tested at the end of Key Stage 2 falls outside the squad. What the eight domains actually assess.

Every mission ends with a debrief built on these six skills. Schools register free - parents and tutors can sign up directly. Start reading, and meet the squad in the field.

Field notes

Max can crack any cipher in the world. He cannot find his own keys. The Academy's codebreaker is a whirlwind of half-finished notebooks, pencils behind both ears and ink on his fingers. His desk has not been visible since 2019.

His great insight is the one he most wants children to understand: an unfamiliar word isn't a wall. It's a code - and codes can be cracked. You look at the letters around it. You look at what's happening in the sentence. Then you work it out, the way an agent would.

Gadget // The Cipher Journal

A battered brass-bound notebook that glows when it's working. Letters, dots and dashes lift off the page and rearrange themselves in mid-air until the meaning falls into place. Max says he doesn't strictly need it. Max is showing off.
